I have committed many violences on the front derailleur frame
but i have earned knowledge and made advancements
you will note the bike is in its lowest possible gear and i got there through ordinary shifting
on the stand, we have:
clean back gears in front gear 1: 1-4
clean back gears in front gear 2: 2-8
clean back gears in front gear 3: also 2-8
this is imperfect but it gets me the maximum gearing range and i will take it for now
if this works I may need to reinforce the frame, i have ... improved it ... mostly through removal
(Fixed! Cleaning and repacking and it's smooth as butter. Either dirt in there or the grease wasn't doing its job, or the bottom bracket was loose/not properly tightened so the bearings were rattling).
Not doing it yet, but I suspect re-greasing the front and back hubs would also be nice. It's fine now, but probably a decade at least on the existing grease.
Removed bottom bracket. No photos, WAY TOO MUCH GREASE to get on the phone, lol. There was grease in there, and probably newer, but I cleaned and repacked everything anyway. It may end up needing new bearings. Will see how it does with clean grease. (the old stuff looked reasonably clean inside, but there was either two different kinds of grease on the outside or a lot of dirt.
Used three tools I had purchase for prior bike repairs thinking I'd never use them again, yay!
Bottom bracket is dry, will have to repack and maybe replace bearings. Very noisy when pedaling. Probably the grease or remnants from 1987. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair
nice and clean but the front gearset won’t clean so nicely, it’ll have to come off
EVERYTHING in the drive path of this old Peugeot was covered in this thick, sticky goo
Temporary fix, cannibalized a strap from a similar era pedal, until I can fix my rivet tool. 🤔(used twice a decade, lol). Now to decide on riding back to the bike store today or not. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter
Test ride. VERY nice ride on this... incredible. New chain working, BUT need some help. On the large front chainring, smooth and perfect. On the small chainring, the biggest cogs are great, but cannot use the three smallest cogs. Is this a chain mismatch (I am unsure on the chain specs...), or does the rear cassette need to be replaced? Old chain was very stretched. UPDATE: Based on measurements, my chain is a 9 speed chain, not a 7 speed chain. This may account for the skipping. Going to go buy a 7 speed chain, lol. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair

Hmm, these appear to be furry bits of plastic. I guess I will be figuring out how to replace these... 🤔#BikeRepair #BikeTooter #derailleurs
Existing chain is toast. I have an extra that will work, already waxed. Where did I put those quick links?! #BikeTooter #BikeRepair
Washed! Quite a bit of dings in the paint, so I need to decide on painting for this or not. #BikeRepair #BikeTooter
Random bike repair question.
Reuse old tube, holds air... (probably, very old... was inside rotted tires)
vs.
wait for brand new tubes
(that's probably a stupid question, isn't it.... 🤔)
Before/after on the rack setup. I am sure this is going to be a lot better! #BikeTooter #BikeRepair #pannierrack
Recounted showing Ortlieb bag and new rack!! This will be much better for sure, and more heel clearance too. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair #panniers
@thefathippy okay, fixing this!! #BikeTooter #BikeRepair
