Very interesting, all this week until Sunday there's this wedge of Extreme HeatRisk in between Midland and Lubbock. Just the one area. Curious why the heatwave is centered in that particular area. #ExtremeHeat #TXwx

From North Carolina’s Weather Authority on FB: Tropical Update: Good afternoon, everyone. I am doing a quick tropical update because there have been some things floating around out there, so I wanted to clear the air. A trough of low pressure is currently over Northeast Mexico, which is expected to re-emerge over the Northwestern Gulf late on Tuesday into Wednesday. There is a chance the system will briefly become a Tropical Storm along the Texas coastline before moving gradually back inland across the Deep South.

-Regardless of development, the National Hurricane Center says Interests across southern and eastern Texas and portions of Louisiana and Mississippi should prepare for periods of intense rainfall over the next several days, which could produce widespread, life-threatening flash, urban, and river flooding. Gusty winds and coastal flooding are also possible along portions of the northwestern Gulf Coast.

- I'm sure you've seen the random posts about the so-called landcane that is coming from this system to the SE US. No, that is not expected to happen, but it could bring us at least some moisture to North Carolina on Friday, though most of the moisture will be farther south of NC. I'll be watching it all week and will update as needed. Otherwise, there is nothing else in the tropics to talk about!

-Ethan

Heavy rainfall and flash flooding forecast across Texas, the Gulf Coast, and the Appalachians

A Slight Risk area for excessive rainfall remains in effect across southeast Texas, the central Gulf Coast, and parts of the Ohio Valley into the central Appalachians where slow-moving thunderstorms may produce flash flooding over saturated ground through May 27. Deep Gulf moisture and a slow-moving weather pattern are forecast to fuel multiple rounds of heavy rain from southeast Texas to the central Appalachians, increasing the risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas through late week. #weather #TXwx #GulfCoast #Appalachians
