A6.
* Any lay-person resources to learn more?
* W/gyroscopic forces, the turning CoE moves forward of the wheel centre, even > r (e.g. the demise of delta motor trike.) Is this greater w/ larger diameter?
There are many books that attempt to explain the physics of bikes, this might be the best: mitpress.mit.edu/9780262538404…
* Is larger diameter generally better?
It depends. Bigger gyroscope is great for straight-line efforts and rolling over bumps, smaller is better for turning, and not hitting your foot with it.
* Why is the standard #bicycle #wheel 700c / 26"?
History, and trial and error. In US, the bicycle became a child's toy, 28" adult size, AKA 700c, died out in early 20th century. When hippies wanted fun, they grabbed juvenile bikes from the 1940s, thus the mountain bike, thus 26" popularity.
* Is this a factor in drive wheel vs steering wheel? I.e. if they must be different, which should be larger?
Same size good. Ride.
