“#Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ gave #ICE $45 billion for detention through Sept 2029, former Dept of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem decided to use $38 billion of it to buy mega warehouses and convert them to detention centers.

An #Atlanta suburb has filed a lawsuit alleging that ICE paid more than five times the assessed value of a warehouse there.

ICE are now hoping to sell some of them. “

I also made it to Atlanta. It’s been on my bucket list for a while. The city of the civil rights movement. I went to the King museum, experienced my first real super car-centric US city, and flew out of one of the busiest airports in the world.

It was my first time traveling outside of the coastal areas of the U.S.

Last couple of days:

- Coast Starlight (Emeryville to Los Angeles)
- Southwest Chief (Los Angeles to Albuquerque)

Then I flew to Atlanta and I have two more cities (Philadelphia and New York City) before leaving the country

One of the cool things about taking local buses is you can get a good sense of neighborhoods

I don’t know *anything* about Atlanta neighborhoods but I immediately got the vibe that I like Cabbagetown and East Atlanta in general

Okay this is unfair. You guys have a proper Malaysian restaurant?!

In SF, I have to go to.. San Jose or Pleasanton (don’t tell me about your fave SF Malaysian / Singaporean restaurants..) to Chickenlicious or Curry Leaf Bistro.

Mamak looks great and legit (also Malaysians have vouched for it)

People really do just tell me their favorite restaurants randomly.

While having coffee, I found out about JenChan’s and OK Yaki, so I’m very excited about that

Atlanta food thread:

1. I’m at a place that feels like someone did a focus group of just me and asked ‘what do you want?’ (Coffee and tinned fish)

It’s called Larakin. Good coffee, beautiful outdoor seating in Midtown.

On Sundays and Mondays they have a Japanese popup doing 10-13 course omakase. Cool concept. On Friday nights the chef does hand rolls here

8. MARTA in Atlanta, Georgia

Don’t have a fun fact, but wow these trains are really old

I haven’t been in a single automobile this week.

I might break that spell when I get to Atlanta in a few days, although I do plan to ride a lot of MARTA
