#Celebrity news is mostly stupid because, like us, most #celebrities are stupid. But a few, like us, are awesome

#DuaLipa you're fucking awesome

Random trivia: I do not own any of the albums of the few LPs I purchased in any other form (CD, digital). And I haven't heard most of these songs! #music

Doubled my LP collection at an estate sale, lol. (Yeah, ancient technology, easily scratched, sound not as accurate as a CD, why are you using records when you can stream this all from Spotify for free while listening to ads that support Joe Rogan and pad the pockets of billionaires who would rather you die, but they might as well feast on you while feeding your personal info into the giant ad machine soon to be turned into Big Brother on steroids?) #music

When Queen released “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 1975, nobody had heard anything quite like it.

A six minute song with no chorus, multiple genre shifts, and an operatic section that radio stations were told would never work.
Boy were they wrong!

And now here's a new generation of kids reacting to that mind-blowing rock anthem.

LA Times: ‘We were just being ripped off’: Musicians lost thousands after AI bootleggers stole their song

"...A viral hit called “Run Run River” turned out to be an AI-tweaked clone of SoCal reggae band Stick Figure’s 2019 song, earning bootleggers thousands without credit or consent.... The case exposes a flood of cheaply made, often fraudulent AI tracks on major streaming platforms, siphoning royalties, overwhelming detection systems and blurring the line between fan remix and scam...."

Fascinating, LPs sell for $3.99 each at the thrift store, CDs for $1.99 each. (CDs being superior in terms of sound quality, but vinyl being popular now...). 🤔 #music

Apparently tribute bands are popular here in our area for concerts. I wonder if that's a suburban America thing, i.e. people want to hear music they like and have heard before, vs. original artists?

Artists: Garth Guy/The Premier Garth Brooks Experience

The New West Symphony (at least, local)

Twisted Gypsy/Fleetwood Mac Tribute

Wild Night/A Van Morrison Tribute

90's Rock Show

(I guess we are a high consumer-oriented neighborhood, vs what I imagine you'd get in San Francisco or Portland or Seattle)

A bunch of "pop up" concerts in Thousand Oaks. Traffic and parking is typically impossible for these and the other concerts, but an ideal opportunity to bicycle to these events. (bring lights if you do though, due to their end time... and watch out for confused drivers looking for parking).

For the young'uns who don't know, the #CircleJerks are an #oldSchool #hardcore #punk #band

And here we see the Circle Jerks confronting a fan suffering from the well known #MAGA cringe of going "I wish my favorite band would stay away from #politics" (like #RATM 😂)

🤪

Hilariously unaware their favorite band never changed, the MAGA #chud simply became a zombie #bigot

Unexpected bonus: Bahasa #Indonesia subtitles

edit: they're on tour now in #Europe songkick.com/artists/542899-ci…

Another Jazz post:

Today its 100 years since the birth of Miles Davis; the one jazz musician nearly everyone has heard of.

Across a long career, Miles seldom looked back, never resting on his laurels but rather pushed forward into new forms... from Kind of Blue to electric Miles, sometimes he took people with him, sometimes he left them behind, but in the end few musicians can have so shaped their home genre, and innovated so often.

He may no longer be with us but his music is!

RIP Sonny Rollins

For jazz fans a towering colossus of the saxophone, Rollins work spanned be-bop to fusion, with his distinctive sound always taking the lead.

Famous for practicing on Brooklyn Bridge & memorialising it in music as well as providing the soundtrack for Alfie (a landmark British film), Rollins was one of those musicians who was alway there, always playing & always interesting.

A genius has left the stage
