On one level Lauren Jimerson's Painting her Pleasure: Three Women Artists & the Nude in Avant-Garde Paris (2023) is a fascinating & focussed study of three women artists' depiction of female nudes. Sadly too often the convoluted, academic expression detracts from the interest of the argument. There is much of value here but a more fluid narrative would help make points that here often sink beneath a tortured expression.

As Laurie Penny argues feminists have been condemned to be the Casandras of the Manosphere - they warned us decades ago that it would come to this, and too often they were mocked for a 'lack of a sense of humour' or exaggerating the threat.... but I imagine few feminists will be glad that their warnings have been comprehensively vindicated.
