More criticism is coming Zack Polanski's way; mostly its statement he made which (shall we say) were optimistic about his interactions & practice with various people & organisations.

but nothing has appeared coming even near the sorts of scandalous behaviour revealed about the Fascist Frog or others from the Westminster Village.

This underpins an argument that he's no better than those he criticises which may account for a dip in his opinion poll ratings.

The Q. is: does it matter?

It looks like the Green Party of England & Wales are looking to assemble a core of commitments that would remain non-negotiable in any future coalition discussions (i.e. after an inconclusive election).

For those who have recently joined (or now support) the GPEW on its reinvigoration under Zack Polanski, this may be a moment of considerable importance; for longer term Greens the fear may be what (if any) longer term environmental policies *don't* make into the core.

Hmmm... so it looks like the Green Party of England & Wales have decided to stand in the Makerfield (new candidate: Sarah Wakefield) but are not making it a priority - rather, after their recent success in Mayoralty elections they are going to focus on the Manchester Mayor position if Andy Burnham is successful in Makerfield.

I'm sure its not been an easy decision for the local party, but many here will see it as the right way to go.

So, the Green Party of England & Wales' candidate for the Makersfield by-election has pulled out for 'personal & family reasons'; as such a new candidate will now need to be found (pretty quickly).

Many might wonder if this is the first stage in the GPEW seeking to give Andy Burnham an easier ride in the by-election?

This, as has been discussed here over the last couple of days, is a potentially contentious move, if this *is* what it is.

We know the rise of the Greens & ReformUK Ltd has shifted voters away from supporting the Labour Party. The Economist used these results to match the age & work profile of workers to map this transition between 2021 & 2026.

The diagram below offer a (further) stark demonstration of why the Labour Party is wrong-headed in their aping of ReformUK, not least because their support from such wider base is moving to the Green Party of England & Wales.

Q. what should the Green Party of England & Wales do in the Makerfeld by-election?

Should they reign back to give Andy Burnham a better chance but demand action of electoral reform (perhaps)?

Should they fight the seat on the grounds they could win... and any 'splitting' of the Left vote is Labour's problem not their's?

There are no easy answers here, but the vey fact this *is* an issue, actually reflects the rising success of the GPEW!

The media seems relatively uninterested in the £5m in crypto-currency given to the Facist Frog, but a lot more interested in the council tax affairs of Zack Polanski.

On one level this is a metric of how seriously the Right take the threat from Polanski & the Green Party of England & Wales.... on another level, given what happened to Jeremy Corbyn at the hands of an antagonistic media, we might have hoped he would have put his own house (boat) in order ahead of the game?

More on the shape of the support for the Green Party of England & Wales in Thursday local elections; they performed best in areas with lots of renters (which may be at least partly coterminous with the age profile posted about earlier today/yesterday).

Now the majority of results are in the shape of the Green Party of England & Wales' 'surge' is clearer - their best result (ever?) in local elections, leaving them in control of four councils (and a major role in the large number that now have no overall control) but as the result for individual seats show, dwarfed by ReformUK Ltd's larger success.

However, Zack Polanski & the GPEW should be reasonably happy especially if they treat this election as a 'proof of concept'!

One thing we might observe if the English local council results continue in the vein of so far this morning, is that the Green Party of England & Wales may be heading for its highest vote share in local elections, and perhaps most importantly is increasingly going to be in second place.... which may be some solace to the GPEW & Zac Polanski who can use that standing as a basis for the canvassing & ongoing campaigning ahead of a general election...

The Green Party of England & Wales acceleration under Zack Polanski has (unsurprisingly) led to more scrutiny (both legitimate & more attack-based) revealing at least two issues:

Polanski is deft at batting away most criticism(s), using a combination of admission & apology (quickly) he's neutered most criticism of his past;

rows about GPEW Council candidates has revealed the problem of accelerated success; quick & often incomplete party vetting - which is solvable.

I’m anticipating that the #Greens could take over control of #Norwich city council, that would be at a cost to #Labour. There is one ward that may go to #Reform.

The county picture is murkier. I suspect #Reform will replace #Tories in many instances. I fear the impact this will have on the city, because I have seen the Tory impact despite zero presence on city council for years now.

Signage and leaflets significantly down for all parties on previous years.

Commentary on the bond market (traders) claims Gilts' yields (the price of servicing public debt) may rise if Labour's prospective losses in this week's local elections prompt either a shift to the Left (in fiscal terms) or a change of leadership (or both).

'Threats' of adverse market reaction by traders to shifts in fiscal policy are really aimed at the Green Party of England & Wales, suggesting Zack Polanski needs a clear bond market strategy to deal with such pressure.

The exodus from Labour to the Green Party of England & Wales continues... no wonder Labour has upped its attacks on the 'eco-populism' of Zack Polanski.

Labour has been happy to distance itself from the Left thinking they had nowhere else to go, but that strategy is now been revealed to have been built on sand.

Greens may wonder if they are also importing Left factionalism, but their strong internal democracy should help them counter that!

@benroyce @Oldfartrant @baronvonj @JYeo18 @suzannealdrich it is a real conundrum for people who think the #uniparty is ever going to police itself. In spite of your rage... Correct? In the mean time, #greens live in your minds rent free. Why? Your party needs an excuse for its own failures. Anyway, you know there is a home for you when your frustrations lead to a cognitive dissonance so intense you have to explore a more radical self honesty. We are here. Not going away.

axios.com/2026/04/12/swalwell-…

@benroyce @Oldfartrant @baronvonj @JYeo18 @suzannealdrich your strategy isn't going to happen. As #democrats passively ceded the Supreme Court you got Citizens United and Snyder which make both parties coin operated mechanisms. You are not occupying any empty shell, and your pussy hats while lovely are not saving Democracy. What will happen is a coalition of survivors will turn their attention to a dying planet which can no longer support them once wars have exhausted all. #Greens are ready.

@benroyce @Oldfartrant @baronvonj @JYeo18 @suzannealdrich yes he did run as a #democrat, and #dems threw him off the island. #Democrats are seriously going to need to get real about how they lost to Donald Trump. Imagine losing to Donald Trump? Kamala got close, held down by Joe's failures, but the whole #Clinton #DNC fraud debacle cost you eight years of #Bernie. And you blame, #Greens 🤣 Listen up party of #Swalwell, you have problems that are solvable. But these require a courageous inventory!

@benroyce @Oldfartrant @baronvonj @JYeo18 @suzannealdrich declaring yourself truth, very trumpian. But yours is just gaslighting. I've delivered to you calm facts, you yell expletives, because you actually know. So here is the thing, it is a reality. #Greens are not going away and will be right here with you supporting #Dems if Dems send up say, an AOC. Or alternatively voting for our own candidate if you send a squish. Here is the zinger buddy:-) If I am wrong, what are you complaining about?

@Oldfartrant @benroyce @baronvonj @JYeo18 @suzannealdrich well Doug, live with it. We are not going away. And if you nominate another squish, we will take your cookies again. Either break the two party state, or live with it. So many of you want to tell us #Greens about "reality", about the two party state that we oppose. *We* get it, no need to explain. Our politics is opposed to it, so we only stand under your tent when it is in our interests. It is you who does not see that you do not see.

If ReformUK Ltd's recent record in local Govt. has done the Facist Frog no favours, as we head into local elections when the Green Party of England & Wales is expected to make significant gains, the (longer) record of Greens in local councils will be of less help than Zack Polanski might hope.

The Greens locally have a pretty mixed record which has sometimes underlined the difference between a rural & fiscally conservative local party & the more 'radical' national party.

#Greens #politics

@benroyce @JYeo18 @baronvonj @suzannealdrich @Oldfartrant ah but you missed it again, #greens are winning. Literally where my comment started. While #democrats are panicking about the oil shock, we live in a small house w/o the evils of air conditioning or clothes dryers. Our #bolt costs $10 to $12 to charge. While #dems rightfully $#!+ themselves about being blamed for #trump's disasterous adventure in #Iran capitulation, I'ma canning food:-) We can go table for #greens! And will.

@benroyce @JYeo18 @baronvonj @suzannealdrich @Oldfartrant Oh dear, he wants to play. So we are seeing here a lot of the reasons that #democrats lose. It is a party that is going to give you lectures, tell you how you have to stand under their $#!+ umbrella and smile. Hard no! Nobody stands with the #Democrats to feel like a winner! In fact, as I said long ago in this thread, the #idiocracy implemented by the #uniparty is in some tragic ways working out promising for #greens. Be better!

@benroyce @baronvonj @suzannealdrich @Oldfartrant and Spain won't help #maga because they are, Spain. I am not sure you are picking up what I am laying down here, but in case it wasn't clear, #greens are not your subsidiary. We are happy to be allies where we can, allyship is something we have actually thought through:-) So call me names if you like, you are obviously building something 😂

@benroyce @baronvonj @suzannealdrich @Oldfartrant I think it is very clear, you demand loyalty. Just like a #maga. Part of the failing of the #Democratic party is this $#!++!&9 on allies. But I will say it again, it is a very good day for us #greens. That a #democrat is bitching and demanding compliance tells us a lot about why so many in this country are so lukewarm about you. We are not here to serve you, we are here to join with you when it is in our interest. I think you get it now

@benroyce @Oldfartrant only my party the #Greens are winning. The price of oil will be excessive until *at least* 2028. And that means, more solar and wind adoption. Less shipping and more local economic development! Weird, we didn't even get elected and the #uniparty $#!+ all over itself and gave us a victory ✌️. Have I said how much I love our #EV which is $10 to fully charge when using our house?

Is the Green Party of England & Wales benefiting from the Left-Labour movement that got behind the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn?

Certainly some advisers & organisers who were associated with Corbyn are now working directly for (or indirectly in support of) the GPEW.

And the GPEW seems to lack the factionalism that bedevilled Labour's shift; rather the party is much more consolidated & behind the Zack Polanski strategy.

This will be a major strength if its maintained

Here's a long interview with Hannah Spencer (the new Green Party of England & Wales MP), which among other things confirms the caustic role of the media in this country in trying to smear & discredit progressive politicians;

if you have the time this morning its worth reading, not least of all as it marks a welcome contrast to the sorts of interviews of career politicians that usually grace the media.
