When is a ceasefire for negotiations not a ceasefire?

When both the US & Iran continue exchanging attacks while claiming such exchanges are not violations of the ceasefire!

On one level perhaps this merely reflects the old Humpty Dumpty aphorism that words mean what we say they mean... but on another its one more sign that political/diplomatic discourse is at best unreliable as a guide to actuality, and at worst intended to be deceptive (or at least distracting).
