"On Monday morning, a suicide note was shared amongst a few people in a group of folks from the advocacy community for folks with disabilities in Alberta. The man said that the switch from AISH to ADAP was the last straw for him and he was going to take his own life. He told us not to bother trying to stop him. We did anyway. I found his phone number in seconds, Zachary Weeks reached out to the RCMP with his address and phone number right away. We did what we could.
A few minutes ago we received word that the man did, in fact, succumb to suicide. I am gutted. We all are. Mostly because we're all terrified that this is going to happen again over the next few months as people become victims of this government's callousness and their own despair.
