#USA #Canada #tradewar report:

1. Canadians can't get shitty American liquor. Oh wait: not true, they just don't want that

2. Americans meanwhile can't wipe their ass. Which is fine. We put people with the personalities of unwiped asses in the White House! Yay! 😩

#Russia and #China have a "Friendship without Limits" #pact signed in February 2022, the start of the #Ukraine invasion. It's about shared anti-Western interests

Unfortunately for Russia, there are, in fact, limits 🤭

Western #sanctions on Russia mean something. China carefully balances its #economic interests vs any potential blowback, and who cares what Russia thinks

Iran is set to receive broad financial incentives as part of its agreement with the U.S., including the right to sell oil immediately, tap a $300 billion development fund and get eventual access to its frozen assets. japantimes.co.jp/news/2026/06/… #worldnews #politics #iran #us #donaldtrump #nuclearweapons #straitofhormuz #trade #globaleconomy #oil #israel #middleeast

So the EU has now reached an agreement to implement the US/EU trade deal that was agreed last year, and which has been subject to a range of threats around delay by the Tangerine Tyrant.

However, given the potential agreement now includes a range of ameliorative actions should the TT violate the US end of the deal in any way, its not clear the US will see this as a ratification....

But it also confirms the EU is now slowly pivoting away from trade with the USA!

"When #Trump started weaponising #US tech platforms ... he put the whole world on notice that he could shut down their govts, judiciaries or companies at the click of a mouse.

And... he's whacked the whole #world with #tariffs that violate the #trade agreements that imposed those anticircumvention obligations that protect America's defective #tech exports. Now there's no longer any reason to keep those laws on the books. Happy Liberation Day, everyone!"

Turkey is looking to revive a land route from Baku to the Mediterranean as a way of avoiding trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz... of course the Tangerine Tyrant has also suggested such a thing, but as it would actually pass across Turkey, they seem more likely to deliver such a trade alternative than Trump's geo-fantasy.

It's not a short-term solution but might be regarded as drawing Iran's sting in the medium term over trade routes?

So here's a neat political irony:

The Tangerine Tyrant launches attacks on Iran;

The attacks cause problems in shipping oil out of the Middle East;

Prices rise due to projected constraints on supply across the global oil market;

US oil producers start to export more driven by higher prices abroad...

reducing available supply in the US & raising US prices.

So, next step: US Govt. constraints in oil exports?

Unlikely to please Trump's oil chums!

China has tripled its use of export controls over the last five years (between 2021-25 it announced 30 export restrictions, compared to 11 times in the previous five years).

This confirms a general recognition that despite China's dependence on exports to keep its economic model running, it is also not reticent at using its control over supply chains to seek to influence markets or counter anti-China trade actions.

More evidence of the changing global political economy?

The World Trade Organisation remains neutered by conflict; this weekend's meeting intended to revive the WTO stumbled on a dispute between Brazil & the US on the extension of the e-commerce tariff moratorium - Brazil wanted to limit the extension of free trade in e-commerce to juts another four years, the US wanted it to last longer....

It looks like one more area where the interests of US & Big Tech have scuppered hopes for regulatory stability for developing countries!
