This is a shout out to the Dutch government, putting the money (their investment into the fediverse) in a place where it ends up adding improvements for so many more people than they probably expected. If all European governments would be equally brave, we would be fully sovereign on so many levels with a far lower cost for everyone.
You cannot truly create anything benefiting the public at large by putting money into a for-profit organisation. That will primarily benefit the for-profit organisation first of all.

In another hint of the slow but sure pivot away from the US engineered by the Tangerine Tyrant, it looks like the Norwegians, having rejected membership of the EU twice, are again (seriously) considering a move to join the EU in light of the changing global political environment.
There is of course 'many a slip twixt cup & lip' but even the serious consideration of such a move tells us much about how the USA's position in the global political economy is changing!
Confirming microchips are a strategic technology, the EU Commission is preparing legislation to allow it to intervene in chip markets to halt extra-EU exports at time(s) of chip shortages, alongside arrangements for collective EU public procurement to secure supplies & reduce prices.
As defence priorities move up the policy agenda, given the military use of chips & associated technologies, we're likely to see a significant expansion in such strategies to secure supplies.
Likely to no-one's surprise a new (draft) strategy being developed by the EU Commission (and seen by the FT) shifts the Commission's focus on information & Communications Technologies from regulation to intra-Eu incentives to replace US tech & services with 'home-grown' alternatives....
No-one thinks this will be easy, but developing a strategy & putting funds behind it will be the first step on a necessary if challenging (but not impassible) road.
I know I keep saying this but...
The EU (both members & Commission) may think the UK re-joining could be a good idea, but they will not accept cherry-picking of areas for a reset, will not accord the UK special treatment & so (implicitly) suggest if the UK doesn't want to apply to rejoin (and go through the accession process, then it can always join one of the associate schemes).
Special pleading is getting (and will get) the UK nowhere!

So the EU has now reached an agreement to implement the US/EU trade deal that was agreed last year, and which has been subject to a range of threats around delay by the Tangerine Tyrant.
However, given the potential agreement now includes a range of ameliorative actions should the TT violate the US end of the deal in any way, its not clear the US will see this as a ratification....
But it also confirms the EU is now slowly pivoting away from trade with the USA!
Frankly, #Labour has been delusional about the EU since it adopted the fantasy that it could finagle some kind of soft Brexit without accepting Freedom of Movement. Essentially it yielded to the bigots on racism back in the Corbyn era, and has never found the moral courage or strategic sense to unthink this.
It was the same magical thinking that had Brexiters claiming that we had all the cards.
It's time we learned humility, or at least embarrassment.

There are at least two problems with calls for Keir Starmer to make rejoining the EU a priority:

2. its framed as a way of combating the surge in support for the Green Party of England & Wales; but this repeats the problem of Brexit - seeing EU membership through the lens of domestic political rivalries.

However, you should no longer buy an app from the store.
I had AirPods, iphone, and Watch (older than 7 years) that had battery problems. So I changed everything to European brands.

The two key problems for the Labour Party's stumbling policy of 'resetting' relations with the EU are:
it still wants to cherry-pick areas of 'reset' to the UK's advantage & seeks to enter arrangements without fully contributing;
the EU is increasingly reticent about any detailed rapprochement as it no longer expects Labour to survive the next election in power & assumes if ReformUK Ltd is anywhere near Govt. once again the UK's relations with the EU will be degraded.
