📣 More Dutch companies are making their Android apps inaccessible on alternative mobile devices, by using the strictest Google Play Integrity API settings. 📣

After Funda and Rabobank, now a public collective for emergency controlrooms has made their app inactive on open source OS's. Caught by @rikviergever from @murena .

We can't keep being dependent on two US big tech companies. If we want more digital sovereignty, we'll need to invest in mobile alternatives.

Whenever people may ask me where I usually hang out nowadays, away from traditional #SocialMedia, i.e. the #Fediverse, I'm going to point them to this fine piece of work by @dansup and entice them to dive in & join us!

The waters are lovely ... 👌🏻😎

Introducing the new fediverse.info

A friendly guide to the open social web.

RE: "And we continue to invest into our presence on the Fediverse!" 👈🏻 Phew! Thank you for that!

Please, please, please, don't sacrifice the latter for the former, specially, if you'd want to keep investing with your actions, not just your words, in an "open ecosystem" where we all benefit from open, public conversations 🙏🏻😊

#WSocial will open up their beta program today… and I have a SCOOP for you: it appears that they have quietly gone closed-source!

This is ironic, considering that the @EUCommission just unveiled their Tech Sovereignty Package, emphasizing the importance of #OpenSource. And yet they have migrated their main ATproto accounts to W Social - whose code can no longer be inspected!

My full article - with a great analysis by @aral:

No, but: I don't know of any actual organized work being done to encourage sovereignty, neither social nor digital, but there are lots of individual people and organizations who want to keep their social networks and data from crossing the border. Although the small social justice groups that need it most are oblivious.

I've heard encouraging words from the federal government, but they continue to use US owned services and US located companies.

#SocialSovereignty #DigitalSovereignty

Folks, can you share this post more widely? I haven't heard anything about digital sovereignty for social networks in Korea or Japan, or in Oceania, both of which are hotspots of the Fediverse. I want to know about and connect with people doing this work. #DigitalSovereignty #DigitalAutonomy

Palantir crawls further under the skin of the UK State ⚠️

Yet another contract has been awarded to the spytech firm with links to ICE and war crimes in Gaza. This time covering… firearms, explosives and poison 💀

We need to move away from controversial US firms and back Digital Sovereignty.

Today is the day: The European Commission is expected to publish the EU Tech Sovereignty Package. 🇪🇺

And the demand is clear. When purchasing software products, European authorities must prioritize

- Open source
- Buy European

The Americans buy American, the Chinese buy Chinese, when will Europe start to support its own industry?

The EU Tech Sovereignty Package can be a turning point for #digital #sovereignty.

But will they be bold enough?

#OpenSourceFirst #DigitalSovereignty

We must change the system so that companies like Palantir don’t get their hands on UK public services.

Hitching our wagon to proprietary systems makes it punitive to change providers and leaves us vulnerable to foreign interference.

If we back open source, everything from the NHS to defence is more secure.

MPs want Palantir OUT of the NHS and the UK public sector!

ORG has long warned about our dependency on Big Tech – from vendor lock-in to security risks from foreign-owned companies.

Chi Onwurah MP has echoed our call for Digital Sovereignty to ensure we have control over our critical infrastructure.

Two weeks until the next Digital Independence Day on Sunday, June 7th. What have you accomplished this month? There's still time to #DeGoogle and/or switch to more privacy focused apps. Here is a great video outlining some of the Google app settings you can change to reduce their impact on harvesting your data.

I have written a sample letter that you can use to invite organizations to join the #Fediverse.

The letter is shared under a #CC0 license. Feel free to copy, adapt and send it to organizations that still rely on #BigTech.

The Dutch government has soft-launched code.overheid.nl, a government-wide open-source code platform built on Forgejo. 🇳🇱

This is a massive win for digital sovereignty, proving that large public institutions can successfully deploy sovereign infrastructure and move away from proprietary GitHub or GitLab lock-in.

Dutch civil servant fired because he spoke up against the takeover of #Solvinity that provides the #DigiD service. DigiD is the central system that is used in the #Netherlands to log in into official government and related services.

Solvinity, the company hosting DigiD will probably be taken over by Kyndryl, a US company. Putting the login functionality of the Dutch official digital services under US #jurisdiction.

The UK isn’t a vassal state of America.

Yet Trump wants to punish us over a digital services tax.

This can be resolved by ditching US Big Tech from our digital infrastructure.

We should invest in open source to promote economic growth through greater innovation and a more competitive tech sector.

Today Carney's posts a statement on YouTube: "our former strengths based on our close ties to America have become our weaknesses".

In broadcasting his statement through an American techbro owned and controlled platform and algorithm, Carney demonstrates the urgent need for #digitalsovereignty. As yet, though, this is not part of his #CanadaStrong agenda.

It's the 1st Sunday of the month and so we celebrate #DigitalIndependance Day in Canada. What have you done this past month to secure your personal data? Did you exit X or flee Facebook? Did you #DeGoogle or switch to an #OpenSource software alternative?
Tell us what you accomplished and encourage others to take action. Start small and regain control over your data a little bit at a time.

The Untied Kingdom should be seeking to disentangle itself from US big tech (incl. but not limited to #Palantir) like lots of our #EU neighbours for whom #DigitalSovereignty since the start of the ginger man-baby's second term.

Allowing in US big tech is akin to inviting vampires into your home.

If government data is stored in data centres run by US companies, it also means that data is accessible to the US state under the provisions of the Cloud Act. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CLOUD_Ac…
