“The officer asked me to hand over my badge; he said that it was disabled,” Ms. Gardner said in an on-air interview. “I asked why I could not get inside; he said it was above him.”
A photographer for #MSNOW was also asked to relinquish their badge, but a producer for the network was allowed into the #WhiteHouse, Ms. Gardner said.

#Journalists from #CNN & #MSNOW were denied access to the #WhiteHouse grounds on Saturday, a day after #Trump announced a ban on 3 #news organizations because of reporting he disliked.
Akayla Gardner, a White House correspondent for MS NOW, said that her White House-issued access badge failed to work at the security entrance where reporters typically enter near the West Wing.

What's with MS NOW's theme today...that every progressive idea coming out of COVID was a mistake and everyone should acknowledge they went too far & dial it back, all loosely but deliberately tethered to the story about AOC's life/potential career choices?
BL don't M anymore all of a sudden? 🤔
I don't think every show I've caught this afternoon could be talking about the same thing, the same way without an editorial decision made at the top and passed down.
A basketball coach with a roster, a front office, and a job to protect walked into the loudest night of the WNBA's season wearing four words: Trans Kids Belong.
Then she stood in a hallway and told reporters flat that the innuendo about trans women being predators is simply not what is happening. She named the framing itself as the problem.

Sixty-five million dollars, and it lost by a point.
More than thirty of that came from AIPAC. The rest came from an establishment that had gathered around the other candidate, and the whole pile bought television that a former county health director outran on foot. The Associated Press called it at 9:56 this morning.
He said the line in a Detroit room at one a.m., before anyone had called anything, straight down the barrel at the man he faces in November.
Nobody had to be sacrificed for it. Nobody had to be reframed as a distraction. He talked about rent and insulin and the electric bill in a normal human voice, and people voted for it — which is the most damning thing anyone has said about the last twenty years of strategy.
What did sixty-five million dollars buy?

What Survives the Morning: The Blue Wave Is Happening. For Fucking Real.

Today in Labor History, July 23, 1944: Madeleine Riffaud, 19, got off her bicycle, pulled out a gun, and assassinated a Nazi military officer as he took a stroll over the river Seine. She was pursued by French collaborators with the Nazis, beaten, tortured and imprisoned in a concentration camp. She escaped, but was later caught, eventually being released in a prisoner swap. She then joined the armed uprising against the Nazis. She had said she wanted to murder a Nazi in broad daylight to encourage the demoralized population. At the age of 18, she worked as a midwife in a Grenoble sanitarium, where she also helped hide Jews and Resistance Fighters, and helped operate a clandestine printing press.
After the war, she was inspired and encouraged to write by the surrealist poet, Paul Eluard. She became a journalist for the communist newspaper L'Humanité, and other left-wing publications, reporting on anti-colonial rebellions in Algeria and Vietnam. She saw her reporting as a continuation of her anti-fascist fighting, writing that "a people who oppress another can never be a free people." In another quote, she said: “I didn't want France to do elsewhere what the Nazis wanted to do here.” She also wrote poetry and a memoir: On l'appelait Rainer (Called Rainer). Her first poetry collection was published in 1945, with a preface by Eluard, and a portrait of herself on the cover, drawn by Pablo Picasso. In 1974, after working in a Paris hospital, she wrote her best-seller “Les Linges de la nuit” exposing the poor working conditions of hospital workers in France. She died, at the age of 100, in 2024.

Is AI running the front page of the LA Times there?
Do humans use the term "Newser" in normal conversation.
Also... "LA Times Studios" is the non-journalist side of the LA Times, which (last time I checked) takes paid placement and does commercial promos. Yeesh that it is pushing content front and center...
Can you pay for your "Newser" (in english: Press Conference) to be featured there?
For folks outside of Portland, y’all should know that we have this great newspaper called Street Roots.
It’s run by folks experiencing houselessness. But that’s not a gimmick. They do excellent work. Great reporting with engaging stories.
I always buy the papers from folks who are selling them on the streets. It feels good to contribute to their cause. And it’s always a great read.

They can keep using Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc, too.
But, what would it take to ALSO get them here?

Journalists: Don’t Treat Mastodon Like a Bird
A day or two ago, I encountered a post on Mastodon related to the development of Mastodon. It was related to the tension of on-boarding people as they join Mastodon. Particularly journalists.KnowProSE.com
Interesting to see the news gap (there have actually been at least six rattlesnake bites in Ventura County so far this year, the last being near CSUCI on Sunday). Normally KCLU/Orozco is ahead of this, but I suspect they're running in the blind with the extremely poor journalism/news environment nowadays.... They probably were working on this LAST week, and posted it today despite the update on the count this weekend. (posted as a "trend" piece vs. a "current news" piece).

For example, the Trump Regime is currently claiming the US blew up its own aircraft because they were "bogged down" in sand.
The Iranian Regime is distributing video showing US planes which look to be on solid ground/either a dirt road or hardpack or that abandoned air base.
Iran is claiming the rescue failed.
The US is claiming the rescue succeeded, but stories ALSO include a story of the CIA seeding stories in Iran of the rescue succeeding to try to convince the Iranians to stop looking.
Unclear who, if anyone, to believe in this whole matter. It's all propaganda, all the time, and US/western media is "SO-and-so says" and "So-and-so also says", which is useless... i.e. no confirmation of anything.
#Uspol #journalism #Iran #Iranwar
Western propaganda like it is 1991 again with "precision bombing" and the mysterious enemy with "weapons of mass destruction". WMD for which the bully USA appears to have a monopoly (Hiroshima, Nagasaki). I'll never forget 1991 lies.
A lot of Western mainstream media will very often self-censor, and obey to the Western status quo. Whether that status quo is not democractic or even full fascist does not matter. And since the decline of paper newspaper numbers being sold it is mouse clicks that have become very important for newspaper management. For example, two column writers in two different Dutch newspapers were laid off after more than forty years because of mouse clicks despite a lot of protest by people writing paper letter to the newspapers. The sad thing is that with readers reading paper newspaper there is no such thing as mouse-clicks that can be counted. People like Trump, Farage, Wilders, and others swinging towards far right, fascism are like gold for newspaper clicks. How else can one explain the daily photos of Trump and Trump's spaghetti sentences on the frontpages. Anyway, the big question right now is how do we get journalists back to doing their jobs ? Which includes to defend democracy rather than helping to be part of the erosion of it.

White Paper: Building Trust in the Open
How Open Protocols Can Help Journalism Rebuild Community and TrustBen Werdmuller
It’s almost time to say goodbye to the @newsmast home for the last two days - the #ONA26 Midway.
We’ve had lots of conversations about audience engagement, community, and building social networks for #journalism.
We look forward to rolling out pilots in the US over the coming year. If you know a small, indie newsroom who’d be interested, send them our way!
