personally I'm against that login too unless there's a BIG & PHAT DISCLAIMER that if the used #Apple account gets locked/bricked/deleted it'll prevent logins at all, making one dependant on it!

  • Just like #Mastodon also warns people: 'Your DMs ain't encrypted. Admins and moderators can read them!'

Personally, I think there's NEVER an excuse not to implement username (or at worst: eMail) + Password as primary & mandatory login.

  • Espechally since Apple can (and will if they feel like doing so) brick the *"Sign in with Apple" functionality at any time with neither warning nor grace period nor appeals!

Twenty five years ago today I started the #Safari and #WebKit projects at #Apple Computer.

Which means Safari is now old enough to rent itself a car. But let's not speculate about my age.

I'm still sad I can't use Safari on my Windows PC. Alas, I lost the battle to keep it there. But at least WebKit's DNA seeded or influenced most browsers we use today.

And I'm proud of that impact. Along with the wonderful team I built who made it all happen. Here's to another 25, friends.

My first company, Opera, was built on word of mouth. The same applies to my 2nd company, @Vivaldi. We have never had the means that Big Tech has. In the case of Vivaldi, we have even avoided investors, to not end up like Opera.

We have also made it harder for our selves. We likely could have generated more funds through adding stuff like Crypto, AI or just plain old data collection in the browser, but we choose not to. We are also not an Ad company like most of our larger competitors. Instead we have added a wealth of features and customization.

Now people are starting to understand that just going with Big Tech may be easy to start with, but ends up not being worth it. In fact we now have governments and companies thinking that they need to move away from Big Tech and quickly.

Thank you Apple for making 26.x a clusterf%%k of bad design, an accessibility disaster, and now an exemplar for #enshittification(@pluralistic). When you upgrade to 26.5 and visit Maps, read the Advertising and Privacy link carefully. A good reason NOT to update. Can't tell you truly how disgusted this makes me!
